CNN Poll: Majority says government a threat to citizens' rights

Well ya. When has there ever been a time when the government is in lockstep with the people? Governments throughout history have sold their own people into slavery, beaten them, raped them, murdered them, etc. etc. As Thomas Paine put it: "Every spot of the old world is overrun with oppression. Freedom hath been haunted round the globe. Asia, and Africa, had long expelled her. Europe regards her like a stranger, and England hath given her warning to depart."
Governments will always try to grow. They will always try to gain more power for themselves at the expense of less freedom for the people they want to rule over. That is why our Founders regarded government as a necessary evil, but gave us the tools to try and keep it in check. Well we haven't done to good a job of that now have we America?
Below is some of the article with a link to the whole thing.

Washington (CNN) – A majority of Americans think the federal government poses a threat to rights of Americans, according to a new national poll.

Fifty-six percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday say they think the federal government's become so large and powerful that it poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens.

The survey indicates a partisan divide on the question: only 37 percent of Democrats, 63 percent of Independents and nearly 7 in 10 Republicans say the federal government poses a threat to the rights of Americans.

According to CNN poll numbers released Sunday, Americans overwhelmingly think that the U.S. government is broken - though the public overwhelmingly holds out hope that what's broken can be fixed.
