ATLANTA — The Justice Department has rejected Georgia's system of using Social Security numbers and driver's license data to check whether prospective voters are citizens, a process that was a subject of a federal lawsuit in the weeks leading up to November's election.
"This flawed system frequently subjects a disproportionate number of African-American, Asian and/or Hispanic voters to additional, and more importantly, erroneous burdens on the right to register to vote," Loretta King, acting assistant attorney general of the Justice Department's civil rights division, said. King's letter was sent to Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker on Friday. Secretary of State Karen Handel blasted DOJ's decision, saying it opens the floodgates for non-citizens to vote in the state. "Clearly, politics took priority over common sense and good public policy," said Handel.
Handel said the checks were designed to follow federal guidelines to ensure the integrity of the vote and that those eligible are casting ballots. But the ACLU and the Mexican American defense fund sued, saying the efforts amounted to a "systematic purging" of rolls just weeks before the election. Separately, the U.S., Supreme Court is considering a challenge to the portion of the Voting Rights Act requiring Georgia and select other states to seek approval before tinkering with election law.
Let me just impose a little bit of; what's that stuff called again, you know a lot of people use to have it but today it is kind of scarce...what is that stuff called? Oh ya COMMON SENSE!
Let me start here, all people have to do is follow the natural course of things to see what is really happening in this country. Lets see, the DOJ says that the STATE of Georgia can't check to see if voters are citizens or not. Now I know this is difficult for some (no one reading this blog) but follow this through. Why do people think that is? Why can't the State of Georgia check to see if voters are legal citizens of the United States? Sounds to me like a lot of voters are voting illegally. Perhaps voting for a certain party over the other? Maybe. This is unreal.
Then of course we get the race card like this is 1960 or something. "This flawed system frequently subjects a disproportionate number of African-American, Asian and/or Hispanic voters" says Loretta King. How so? First off we are Americans here. Who is with me on this one? I am sick and tired of people labeling themselves with hyphen this and hyphen that. I am not a European American I am an American damn it and I am proud of it. This is the melting pot we come together here as Americans. Sorry about the rant, I will have to blog on that later. So anyway how does checking ones social security card (wow something just hit me hard with writing that. Think about it. What did we have before Social security cards to keep track of us. Pretty scary stuff when you think about it. What's next federal ID cards, oops wait!) Damn I keep getting off track. So how does checking a persons social security card cause them more burdens? It doesn't seem to be a problem when people are getting a loan now does it? This is nothing more than party politics trying to pander for votes anyway they can get them.
